An Art Exhibit With a Bite?

We're  excited to share with you something interesting that a colleague recently passed along to us here in the gallery. This great "Goings On" online feature from the beautiful Garden & Gun publication, announcing the news of an interesting  exhibit at the National Sporting Library in Middleburg, Virginia, called "Lives of Dogs Viewed Through Literature, Art, and Ephemera".

Now, your always alert, aware,  & dedicated team members here at Sunflower Fine Art

Galleries take delight in announcing when new pieces of  canine-inspired art become available. There's just something special about man's best furry friend that appeals to the heart, and by the looks of this current exhibit, this apparently has been so for countless others over the past several thousand years.

The Lives of Dogs Viewed Through Literature, Art, and Ephemera exhibit shares a fantastic assortment of dog-themed artwork and artifacts going back more than four centuries and will run through mid-December 2010.

If you can't make it to the Virginia exhibit, the following works are available, as prints, in various sizes on paper and canvas, right here, with us...

"The Pointer" by Sydenham Edwards (English, 1768-1819) from Cynographia Britannica. London: C. Whittingham, 1800. From the Collection of William Secord.

Herbert Atkinson (English, late 19th century). "Clumber Spaniel" 1887. Oil on canvas. 9 x 11 inches. Signed Atkinson 1887. From the Collection of Timothy and Jocelyn Greenan

Isn't this all fantastically intriguing?!? And this is just a taste of all that's on display at the National Sporting Library!

Now, of course, all of the beautiful, priceless canine-inspired works of art got me thinking again about all of the fantastic dog artwork available through our online art affiliate Artaissance, there are so many wonderful images available of man's best friend!

Something you may not know about the Vanderbilt family who built America's largest home, Biltmore, is that they were huge dog lovers too! They had dogs both as companions and as hunting partners. If you've ever toured Biltmore you've probably seen some of the canine mementos that belonged to the family. When the team had the opportunity to sift through thousands of books in George Vanderbilt?s library in Biltmore House to select images that would work in our partner site's the Biltmore for Artaissance collection they found a number of canine-themed images, two of which have been transformed into art via Art That Fits?

Fantastic dog art from our Biltmore collection, right?!? In addition to sharing art from the pages of George Vanderbilt?s books from Biltmore's library in our online art gallery, some  of the images from the Biltmore collection for Artaissance can be found on display in our Garden City gallery.

So how do YOU honor your love of man's best friend in your home?

Would you display fine canine art; perhaps a painting of your pretty pampered pooch; a lovely custom frame on your trusted family pet,  or perhaps even a fresh dog image from Artaissance?!?

Let's hear it for the "Dog Days" of Summer...

Would like to thank the kind workers who helped recently move our precious art to our new home, then hung it all with care. With special acknowledgment to Steven who went above and beyond to make my exceptionally fussy wife happy. We appreciate the great caring and advice and patience. You have done yourselves proud!!!
